REFLECTION ON THE YAMIM NORAIM

 

Jewish education isn't just for our children. Our Adult Jewish Growth Monday Night program starts back up this September with a two-parts series, Reflection on the Yamim Noraim:

 

Monday, September 11

Part 1: "But I didn't do that one: How does the constant repetition of lists of sins speak to me?"

Part 2: "But here's what I hope to do this year: A Path to Character Building for the year to come."

Facilitated by Rabbi Paskoff

Bring a friend and join us in the small side of the Social Hall from 7:30PM - 9:00PM for discussions from various educators throughout the community.

ADULT HEBREW CLASS

 

While the children are in Sh'arim (our Religious School) on Wednesdays, adults are learning Hebrew. This program is open to the public and does have a fee. Shaarai Shomayim members only pay for materials. The fee for non-members is $200. RSVP to Martha Rowley, Temple Office Secretary at mrowley@shaarai.org / 717-397-5575.

 

Wednesdays, starting October 18

Enter through the office doors on James Street. A short Shabbat Morning Service will be held in the classroom at the conclusion of the discussions.

 

 

Plan on joining us October 27 - October 29 where Max Edwards will lead a variety of classes throughout the weekend for A New Scholar in Residence Program.

 

...Hmm, I wonder what some of our sessions will include... Edwards is currently a rabbinical student at Hebrew College in Newton, MA, rabbinic intern at Temple Beth Israel in Winsted, CT, and teaches YIDDISH at the Boston Workmen's Circle. ...Stay tuned for more details.

 

WEEKLY ADULT EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES:

BEYOND THE TORAH

 

Explore the mysteries and wonders of the Tanach and discuss their meanings in our lives with Rabbi and other members of your Temple Family. Coffee is served and no prior knowledge is needed.

BOOK GROUP

Join us in the afternoons on Mondays as we read and discuss educational and Jewish literature. We are currently discussing, "Reform Responsa for the 21st Century" and "Penguin Book of Hebrew Verse". You do not need copies of the books to attend.

Bring your lunch and enjoy discussions of the twists and turns the Talmud takes as we learn about how these 2000-year old teachings inform our lives today.

PRIVATE LESSONS

with Rabbi

One-on-one educational support with Rabbi Paskoff is intended for the non-Jewish member who is considering conversion, or the adult who didn't have the opportunity to celebrate becoming Bar or Bat Mitzvah at age 13, and wants the opportunity as an adult. Contact us if you are interested in scheduling private lessons.
