HURRICANE HARVEY:

HELP HURRICANE HARVEY VICTIMS

Hurricane Harvey, the category 4 storm that bombarded the Gulf Coast with home-ripping winds and extensive damage, dumped rain in large areas of central Texas. Despite difficult conditions emergency officials are working to assess the damage that has left hundreds of thousands of people without power or access to food and water and shut down municipal services, highways, schools and community institutions.

Want to help, but not sure how? The Jewish Federations of North America has set up a Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund to fund urgently needed basics like food and medicine, and long-term needs likes trauma counseling. They also provide resources to emergency service providers, so they can help where they're most needed.

SUPPORT SHAYNA FINKELSTEIN'S EFFORTS TO HELP THE FAMILIES OF SICK CHILDREN

Shayna Finkelstein will be selling soft pretzels in the office lobby before Wednesday Sh'arim beginning on September 6 and running through October. All proceeds will be used to provide a meal for guests at Ronald McDonald House.

The Ronald McDonald House provides temporary housing for out-of-town families to be close to their seriously ill child who is being treated at Penn State's Health Children's Hospital.

MAKE A ROSH HASHANAH DONATION

Jewish Family Service of Lancaster with our three Lancaster synagogues - Congregations Shaarai Shomayim, Degel Israel, and Temple Beth El is asking that clean men and women's suites that are no longer being worn, be brought to the synagogues on Erev Rosh Hashanah or the days before. The suits will then be made available to Lancaster residents who need dress attire for return to the workplace. JFS Board Member, and CSS Member, Miriam Baumgartner, will pick up the suits on September 25 and take them to the Lancaster County Council of Churches' clothing bank.
