Welcome to Sharaai Shomayim!
We hope you enjoy our website. It represents Shaarai’s most recent effort to bring our wonderful Jewish traditions and long heritage of the Congregation, the fourth oldest Jewish community in the United States, to current and prospective members, as well as to others interested in learning more about Judaism.
We pride ourselves offering a multitude of opportunities beyond the traditional for people to engage and learn more. From our active Sisterhood and Brotherhood organizations to Youth Groups to our choir, Chavrai Zamir, and the unique stylings of The Chopped Liver River Band, ‘fun’ is a guiding principle.
And of course we have a special focus on Jewish education. Shaarai’s Religious School provides students with exciting, engaging, hands-on Jewish learning experiences while providing the literacy they will need to become practicing Jewish adults. Indeed, we view Jewish learning as a lifelong process and adult education is a tradition at Shaarai Shomyim. In addition, another Shaarai’s recent offerings is the Jewish Genealogical Center. Located in the Library, the Center contains a collection of books and maps, and the computer has access to a number of databases, including ancestry.com, jewishgen.org, ellisisland.org, and Family History Library (Church of Latter-Day Saints).
So, peruse the site and come visit the Synagogue. We’d love to welcome you to our family!
