Congregation Shaarai Shomayim is thrilled to be participating in #GivingTuesday this year! Giving Tuesday “is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organization to transform their communities and the world.” #GivingTuesday started in 2012 as a way to encourage people to do good within their communities. Every year, #GivingTuesday continues to grow and expand.

“We are taught in Pirke Avot, Ethics of our Fathers. ‘Do not separate yourself from the community.’ The converse is equally compelling: We must prevent anyone from being separated against his or her will.”

 

As Jews, we therefore have a religious obligation to actively include people with disabilities in our community and to advocate for their full inclusion in all facets of society. This year for Giving Tuesday, we will be fundraising towards our Disability Initiatives which is a project within our DEI Committee (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion). We want to focus on making our building more accessible for those with physical disabilities and/or challenges.  

 

Shaarai’s goal is to raise $5,000 on #GivingTuesday, which is Tuesday, November 30, 2021.
